2026 GRC Field Trip: From Bedrock to Basin
From Bedrock to Basin: An American Geothermal Wine Tasting
Experience a one-of-a-kind wine tasting designed exclusively for the geothermal energy community. From Bedrock to Basin pairs six estate-grown American wines, each rooted in a different rock, with six of the ways this industry actually pulls heat out of the ground: from the heat-producing granite that Enhanced Geothermal Systems drill into, to the fault-controlled basins that host the country's producing hydrothermal fields, to the shallow ground-source systems already installed in homes nationwide.
No two pours share the same rock. The lineup moves from crystalline basement to volcanic terrain, from deep conductive basin to shallow aquifer, tracing the same diversity of subsurface settings this audience already spends its career mapping, just poured instead of logged.
Why Geology?
Permeability, heat retention, and porosity are the same properties that determine whether a rock hosts a commercial geothermal reservoir — and they're also what shapes vineyard drainage, ripening, and wine character. Six regions, six rock types, one underlying question: what does this ground actually do with heat and water, and how far can you push that story before it breaks?
This premium event is designed to balance education, tasting, conversation, and networking in an approachable and enjoyable atmosphere — built specifically for a technical audience that already thinks in these terms every day.
