Geothermal Rising is governed by a series of committees that help manage all aspects of our governance from finances to communications. Learn more about these groups, their membership requirements, and more below.

Committee Descriptions and Appointments

Board Committees consist of Directors and Volunteer Advisors. Please contact Geothermal Rising Executive Director, Bryant Jones if you would like to serve on a committee.

AUDIT COMMITTEE

Selects qualified financial auditing firm, reviews audits on behalf of the Board.

BUSINESS & FINANCE COMMITTEE

Performs financial assessment and planning, reviews budgets. Regularly provides advice to the President and Executive Director on business and financial matters. Seeks new funding sources.

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE

Develops and monitors public outreach plans that will enhance the industry’s efforts toward greater geothermal development. Such work includes recognition of specific target audiences and development of appropriate channels for timely and effective information dissemination.

EDUCATION COMMITTEE

Prepares annual plan for our program of conferences, courses, workshops, webinars,  and like meetings designed to disseminate geothermal technology mainly to the geothermal, utility, and related industries.

FOUNDATION COMMITTEE

Develops and performs fund-raising activities on behalf of the Geothermal Rising Foundation, in coordination with the Business and Finance Committee. Makes regular investment decisions on funds in the several Foundation accounts.

HONORS & AWARDS COMMITTEE

Selects persons and/or organizations for regular and special Geothermal Rising honors and awards, including the Pioneer, Aidlin, and Special Achievement awards. Develops criteria and makes recommendations for new awards.

INSPECTORS COMMITTEE

Ensures compliance with Geothermal Rising Charter, Bylaws and other legal documents governing the election of Board members. Tallies and certifies votes in elections of Board members.

INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE

Responsible for guiding the efforts of the Geothermal Rising in promoting scientific and technical cooperation on geothermal issues and projects on a global scale, and ensuring that the interests of international members of the Geothermal Rising are best served.

LEGAL / BYLAWS COMMITTEE

Annually reviews bylaws and other documents pertaining to operation of the Geothermal Rising and recommends to the Board any changes deemed necessary.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

Promotes growth in membership in the Geothermal Rising through special solicitations, programs, campaigns, and like activities. Annually reviews membership categories and recommends changes to the Board as deemed necessary.

NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE

Makes nominations for a slate of candidates for annual election to the Board of Directors. Ensures compliance with the Geothermal Rising charter and bylaws in the nomination process.

POLICY COMMITTEE

The Geothermal Rising Policy Committee (PC) is an add-on option for Geothermal Rising members who want to fund advocacy work at the federal, state and local levels. For more information, please see our Policy Committee page here.

STUDENT COMMITTEE

Work with the students interested in a career in the geothermal industry. Provide speakers and programs as needed. Encourage the students to become involved in the Association.
